Season for price ease

THE seasonal effects coupled with demand starting to equalise saw prices last week take a slight dip at the fat cattle market at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange, Warragul, on Wednesday.
Ninety bullocks were yarded with good heavy stock on offer and made from 145 cents to 183.6 cents.
Fifty-one heifers sold to easier demand with the better head selling to 186 cents. The price range for heifers was 104.2 cents to 186 cents.
There were 103 steers penned which ranged in the heavier end of the market and remained firm in price on last sale ranging from 107.6 cents to 185 cents.
Three hundred and fifty two vealers also remained relatively firm easing two cents. The best pen of seven vealers sold for 235 cents, with the range 114.2 cents to 235 cents.
This easier trend carried on through to the bull and cow sale on Thursday, although the 10 cents bulls lost can be partly attributed to the lighter framed bulls yarded this week. Bulls ranged from 120.6 cents to 169.6 cent.
Five hundred and 12 cows managed a six cent backstep this week with lighter head yarded selling to good demand, cows made from 57.2 cents to 160 cents.
