Cr Mulino has lined up another role in strategy and public policy practice within The Nous Group, a consultancy that works with government, private and non-profit organisations.
Cr Mulino was one of two Casey councillors, the other being Mayfield Ward Councillor Kevin Bradford, forced to choose between his council role and employment in an MP’s office following recommendations from the State Ombudsman’s investigation of Brimbank Council.
The State Government ordered councillors who work for MPs to stand down from either role, in a bid to avoid conflict of interest.
Cr Bradford announced in June that he had chosen to leave the office of Narre Warren North MP Luke Donnellan and retain his role on council.
Cr Mulino starts with The Nous Group on Monday, where he will count Melbourne Lord Mayor Robert Doyle among his colleagues.
“I have greatly enjoyed working with Senator Collins and thank her for the opportunity of being involved with implementing a range of important reforms over the past year,” Cr Mulino said.
“Now that I have made the difficult decision to move on, I am very much looking forward to the challenge of working for The Nous Group. In my new role, I hope to directly use my policy experience and my economic and legal qualifications to improve outcomes for both private and public sector clients.
“Importantly, I expect that my new position will complement my role as a councillor. Many of the issues that I expect to work on at The Nous Group will be challenges that the City of Casey also faces. Hopefully, my work as a consultant provides me with fresh insights and ideas that can be directly applied here at Casey.”
Senator Collins said Cr Mulino, who is also employed by Monash University as an adjunct lecturer, would be greatly missed.
