IT’S hard not to be inspired by Shane Brewster, so it’s easy to understand why he’ll reprise his role as EDFL interleague skipper tomorrow, leading the side out on to his Western Park home ground.
Brewster, the Warragul Industrials player-coach, just loves interleague footy and everything it stands for.
“It’s a chance to get away from doing your job of being a coach and going out and playing both for and against players of a really high talent level,” he said.
“I love the concept and everything about it.
“I look forward to it every year and I’ll keep looking forward to it for as long as I can possibly play it.
“That’s the thing that I try to get across to blokes in our league – if you get the chance to play it, you really should.”
Brewster was definitive in saying those who turn down the opportunity of representing the league on the big stage will go on to regret it later in life.
“You just have a chat to some older blokes and they say they just couldn’t be bothered but now they do regret it,” he said.
Saturday will be Brewster’s third EDFL interleague game and sixth overall after also playing three times for Vic Country.
Though he’s 29-years-old now, the midfield ace hopes to have a fair few more interleague appearances in him yet.
“I think our league is getting better every year and this game is a way we can really prove that,” he said.
“Everyone who’s not playing on Saturday should get down there and watch the best players going around in our league and see what they’re all about.”
