WARRAGUL Harness Racing Club is anticipating a bumper crowd for its twilight race meeting on Sunday, 4 February.
Racing club secretary Kyle Galley said previous twilight meetings had proved quite popular and this one should be no exception.
“The twilight meeting features live racing every 20 to 25 minutes, so the action is quite constant,” he said.
“The Sunday evening timeslot also gives families the opportunity to attend and if the weather is fine, many will take up the opportunity of bringing a picnic and relaxing on the lawn.”
The first of eight races will start at 5.10pm, with the last at 8pm, so patrons can be assured of continuous racing excitement.
A strong racing card has been programmed, with three feature races expected to draw good horses.
Those events are the $8000 Eddie Evison Memorial Cup, $8000 Eastern Zone Claiming Race and the $6000 Traralgon Cup.
Mr Galley said there had been plenty of interest in the club’s racing program already and several local horses were likely to compete in the various feature races.
Warragul Harness Racing Club has also joined forces with the Harness Racing Owners Association for the February meeting and members of the association will be in attendance for a ‘happy hour’.
In addition, there will be a lucky racegoer raffle and lollies and a playground for the children.
Reserved dining packages are available at $30 per head. Bookings are essential for this package, by phoning the club on 5622 2008 by 31 January.
The February meeting is second only to the Warragul Cup on Easter Sunday, the biggest harness racing meeting held in Warragul each year.
