Beaconsfield joins rally

REPRESENTATIVES from Beaconsfield Kindergarten joined other kindergarten groups in a rally at Parliament House last Wednesday.
Kindergarten committee president Donna Dent said the rally aimed to highlight the dilemma facing preschools in Victoria.
“Parents For Preschool Education organised the rally and a presentation to Opposition leader Ted Bailleu and leader of the National Party Peter Ryan of a petition containing 34,000 signatures of people concerned about the state of preschool education,” she said.
“Parents For Preschool Education wants kindergartens to be recognised as a part of a child’s first step into education. Kindergartens across Victoria struggle with a shortage in qualified teaching staff and adequate resources.
“More than 4000 children a year miss out on the opportunity to attend kindergarten because of high fees.
“Fees of $700 a year prevent families in need from accessing kindergartens. We want to highlight to everyone the importance of kindergarten. More needs to be done to assist us and the teachers,” Ms Dent said.
