Brookers’ bowlers on target

GEMBROOK’S Cgrade team produced a top bowling and fielding performance to defend a modest firstinnings score of 143 and defeat Devon Meadows on Saturday.
Devon Meadows at stumps on the first day was 0/9 and on Saturday found getting the runs on the board was difficult.
Wickets began to fall from the ninth over, with the first at 21 and the next 11 overs saw the loss of two further wickets with the score 3/39.
From this point there was a batting collapse with three wickets falling in a matter of three overs with the score 6/53.
The Brookers had Devon Meadows all out in the fifth over for 88 runs, equating to a firstinnings win by 55 runs.
The best bowler for the Brookers was Tim Gray with the excellent figures of 5/38 off 16 overs and six maidens. He was assisted by Matt Failla with 3/20 off 15 overs and eight maidens and Grant Whytcross with the tight bowling figures of 2/15 off 13 overs and four maidens.

E GRADE

Defending 186 Gembrook started with Jeremy Everett and Scott Osseweyer opening the bowling.
Osseweyer got two quick wickets to have Devon Meadows at 2/32.
Ian Hooper came to the crease and Devon Meadows still had a chance, but he was caught on the boundary for 50 and then the wickets started to fall with the score 9/149.
However the lastwicket partnership put on 27 runs to make the match a nailbiter, with Devon Meadows all out for 175 and the Brookers winning by just 11 runs.
Wickets went to Jy Berryman (4/62), Marty Williams (3/30), Clint Osseweyer (2/22) and Jeremy Everitt (1/49).
In the field a great catch was taken by Dary Johnston.

F GRADE

The Brookers played away at Nyora for round six.
Nyora won the toss and put the Brookers in to bat.
The Brookers were again short of players having only nine and these gave their all in what turned out to be a closely contested match with Nyora winning by 20 runs.
The best of the batters for the Brookers was David Hill (53 not out retired), Scott Osseweyer (40) and Christian Webb (13).
The Brookers were all out for 120 runs.
With the ball the Brookers once again did well to keep Nyora to 7/140.
The best bowler was Scott Osseweyer with 3/27 off six overs. He was assisted by Troy Jarrett with 1/1 and John Green 1/17 off three overs.
