IT was a day out for the Hackett brothers on Saturday – Brenton in Bgrade and Jake in Cgrade, both scoring half centuries to help Nyora into strong winning positions
B GRADE
Nyora won the toss and chose to bat.
Justin Redinger and Brenton Hackett took the score to 21 before the former fell for a stylish 10.
Mark Pearse joined Hackett and made a robust 38 (four fours and one six) before being dismissed.
Steady wickets fell with Hackett making 50 (four fours).
Billy Hessels (42), Cameron Smith (29 not out) and the skipper Paul Hendry took the final score to 226.
D GRADE
Nyora loss the toss and bowled.
Jacob Bohmer and Daniel Morrison took the new ball and the attack was vicious, even causing one of the batsmen to require a runner.
Morrison took the first wicket, a catch by Andrew Cavigan at midoff and Beaconsfield was 1/22.
The next wicket fell to Craig Leith, his first of four, which broke a solid partnership.
Cavigan brought himself on and combined with Leith to restrict Beacy during the middle overs.
For 27 overs between the 35 and 62, the pair conceded only 31 runs, but took four wickets.
It was an excellent performance in the field, with the sub Darryl Smith showing he hasn’t lost it.
Ryan McIntosh was good in the field, taking the ball to the body a number of times. Daniel Morrison took two catches, while Nick Fairbank, Andrew Cavigan and Scott Van Wheel also took one.
The highlight of the day was Luke Tagliaferro’s terrific reflex catch.
Wickets feel steadily after tea and Nyora bowled Beaconsfield out in the last over for 171.
The pick of the bowlers was Leith with 30 overs straight for 4/60 (seven maidens).
Cavigan took 3/19 (four maidens) off 14 overs, Nick Fairbank 2/29 off 10.3 overs and Morrison finished with 1/28 off seven.
F GRADE
Playing Pakenham, Nyora lost the toss and bowled with Daniel Kerison and Phil Cleary opening.
Both bowled superbly, restricting Pakenham early, with Kerison 0/9 off six overs and Cleary 1/9 also off six.
Chris Mitreski bowled well and also took a catch. Cleary was also involved in a wellexecuted run out and Pakenham was dismissed for 125.
Kerison opened the batting as well with Shane Elverd and they played well together with the first wicket not falling until the 20th over.
Phil Cleary made a handy 12, but it was Lee Jose who stole the show with an excellent 34.
It was an allround good effort with the bat, but Nyora fell just short, being left stranded on 7/107 at the end of its allotted 35 overs.
UNDER 17
Nyora battered first against Officer with Jake Hackett and Luke Ferguson opening.
When Ferguson was dismissed for 21, Nyora was well placed at 1/50.
Luke Tagliaferro came to the crease and after making a quick fire 22, joined Ferguson in the pavilion.
Billy Hayes and Hackett combined well until Hayes was dismissed for 10 and Hackett retired a few balls later on 50 with the score on 3/127.
Wickets then fell quickly and Nyora was 8/136.
Hackett returned and he and Michael Van Wheel batted for six overs until he was caught for 60, making it two half centuries in consecutive matches.
Van Wheel was left stranded on one not out.
UNDER 13
Sent in to bat, Nyora made a very solid start against Pakenham Gold, not losing a wicket until the 14th over.
With all batsmen putting a lot of value on their wickets the Pakenham side had to work very hard.
The best of the batsmen were Jack Strybosch (30 not out) after opening, Michael Van Wheel (23) and Gavin Hackett (14) and Mason Lambert made six not out in his first game.
A great team effort to bat the entire 40 overs out.
Good bowling by Josh Mirabito (2/15), Matt Innes (2/13) and S. Dillon (1/1) made it a good contest.
