Bryce starts with old school ties

BRYCE Hathaway made his own mark in history on the first day of school.
The youngster became the first thirdgeneration student to attend Upper Beaconsfield Primary School.
Continuing a long and proud tradition, Bryce is the 18th member of his family to attend the school.
He follows in the footsteps of mum Karen, his grandmother and several aunts and uncles as well as a number of other relatives.
Bryce’s grandmother Annette Walker (nee Kenny) was a student in the late 1950s. Annette’s four brothers and sisters Peter, Frank (deceased) Carol and Jill also attended the school.
Annette and husband Terry’s five children Michael, Karen, David, Sarah and Brooke spent all of their primary years at Upper Beaconsfield as did their seven cousins.
Karen, a student from 1978 to 1983, is Bryce’s mum.
She and husband Scott operate the Mitre 10 Handy store in Upper Beaconsfield.
Karen said Bryce was loving school.
“He’s settled in now, he really enjoys it,” she said.
“He was very excited to go back to school again on Monday after the weekend.”
Karen said Bryce’s younger brother Brenton, who attends threeyearold kindergarten at Upper Beaconsfield, would also follow the family tradition. Karen and Scott are expecting the birth of their third child in May.
