Good day to rock along

By Elizabeth Lillis
A DAY and night of rock’n’roll will be held in Pakenham for the Good Friday appeal on 6 April.
Local dance teacher Sue Dodson has organised 13 bands to play from noon to 1am as a fundraiser for the Royal Children’s Hospital.
Ms Dodson said she found the bands were very willing to give their time to perform at the event.
“They were really keen to get involved when they heard it was to support the children’s hospital.
“Many of the bands have performed at dances in Pakenham, others are well known and perform on the other side of Melbourne,” she said.
Music will be in rock, rockabilly and country rock styles for people to dance to on the Pakenham Hall’s large dance floor.
Some of the bands joining in the day include Straight 8s, Fender Benders and Wild Turkey.
Two DJs will provide the music between the bands sets.
Admission is $10 for adults with children under 16 free to see the bands in the Pakenham Hall at the corner of John and Henry Streets.
The event has been combined with a Show and Shine event and people with classic cars and bikes being encouraged to bring them along.
“The cars will be roped off in their own area,” Ms Dodson said.
“We will have a judging of the cars with trophies for the best hot rod, custom car and bike.
“There will also be a special trophy for kids choice; the children will be able to vote for their favourite car.
“People are welcome to bring a picnic, we’ll also have food stalls and it is a BYO alcohol event.
“There will be face painting for the children.”
Ms Dodson said all the proceeds from the day would go to the Good Friday appeal.
“I’ve had a lot of quality items donated for some raffles on the day from local businesses, the support has been fantastic,” she said.
Ms Dodson said she had a small committee working with her and had managed to organise the event in only six weeks.
