Mathers shows Cobra venom

MERINDA Park’s Agrade team pulled off one of the upsets of the year with a 12run win over Beaconsfield on Saturday.
The star for the Cobras was Jess Mathers with 7/47 from 18.4 overs to help bowl the visitors out for 149.
Older brother Shannon Mathers also bowled a long spell of offspin to end the innings with figures of 1/49 from 25 overs.
Coach Craig Boswell was delighted at his first win as a senior coach and was full of praise for the way the Cobras played in the match.

It was not a good day for the Cobras, being bowled out for 120.
Only captain Russell Dunn (34 not out) and Nick Reed (29) looked in good form.
Matthew Grayson and Tony Clarke both contributed 13 with the Cobras made to follow on.
The second innings was not much better with the Cobras making 5/85 by stumps.
Russell Dunn continued his firstinnings form with 29 and Jarrod Armitage 25 not out.

The Cobras had an easy win over Nyora that put up a good fight in its second innings to hold off outright defeat.
Batting on for 11 overs, the Cobras’ innings was declared at 8/206 with John Cuthbertson posting yet another century. His score of 114 not out included some big hitting.
Looking for the outright, the Cobras struggled to get wickets with Nyora scoring 3/108 by stumps with the wickets going to Nathan Beaver, Brendan Fairlam and Grant Pearson.

The Cobras had a massive win over Beaconsfield, thanks to two big centuries from Mark Elliott with 126 and Robert Strang 150, sharing a 239run partnership that was one of the biggest in the club’s history.
Jason Edwards also contributed 48 with Craig Robertson making 24 and Dion Olszewski 18 to the massive total of 5/413 a comfortable win by 183 runs.

The Cobras had a good win over Kooweerup with both Craig Glassborow and Andrew Hathaway scoring 50s.
Opener Chad McKie (38), Steven Burr (24) and Stan Pongracic (20) all contributed to the large total of 5/232.
The Cobras then bowled Kooweerup out for 154 in only 27 overs.
Robert Clarke took 3/32 from six overs, Marcus Beaver 2/19 from six overs and man of the match Andy Hathaway with 2/28 from four overs all bowled well.
Captain David Field and Steven Burr both picked up a wicket each.

Chasing 99 to win against Officer, the Cobras top three did well with James LaughlinGlen scoring 27, Michael Theodoridis 28 and Andrew Martin 38.
Paul Boland (14) and Rodney Reed (10 not out) helped the Cobras score 7/144 declared.
Batting for a second time, Officer was 3/34 at stumps.
Ben Sonnet picked up 2/6 from two overs and Kris Kempf 1/6 from two overs.

Chasing the massive total for 8/274 by Catani, the Cobras were bowled out for 74 with only Daniel McCalman (28 not out), Anthony Burr (12) and Brad Twyford (11) making double figures.
Catani decided to bat again and finished the day on 5/113.
Glen Slater took 2/1 from one over with James Gardiner and Daniel McCalman taking a wicket each.

Defending 81, the Cobras put up a good fight with Cardinia scoring 5/153.
Simon Spencer picked up 2/37 from six overs with Ryan Little 1/10 from three overs and Matthew Pongracic taking 1/23 from six overs.

Defending 172 against Clyde, the Cobras were able to bowled Clyde out for 59, thanks to 3/5 by Dylan Cuthbertson, 2/6 for Ryan Little and 2/5 Luke Claringbould.
Sanan Wimalagunaratna (1/3), Udesha Kalapuge (1/0) and Jason Pongracic (1/16) were the other wicket takers.
Following on, Clyde was 7/61 at stumps. Ryan Cracknell taking 3/13, Josh Prudden 2/6 and Simon Spencer 1/8.

The Cobras made 29 from their 20 overs with KilcundaBass making 47.
There was some good batting by the Cobras with Brady Boswell, Caleb Boswell, Shehan Jayaratne and Lachlan Dalton all scoring fours.
Wicket takers included the first ever wicket for Shehan Jayaratne, Caleb Boswell with two, Matthew Dennerley with three including two in one over, Ramith Satharasinghe with one and Lachlan Dalton with one.
Some good fielding too with Caleb Boswell taking two catches, Matthew Dennerley with one and Kyle Salter with one.
Kyle Salter also picked up a runout after running ten metres to remove the bails.
