Nyora just ‘too good’

AN excellent six wicket haul at the weekend by Nyora Bgrade’s Kelvin Toogood helped his side to a semifinal win against Upper Beaconsfield and a berth in this week’s grand final.
Defending 180 in the twoday game, Nyora bundled Upper Beaconsfield out for 135, with Toogood taking his six wickets for 26 runs in 16 overs and Nick Fairbank 2/28.
On day one, Nyora won the toss and decided to bat.
Mark Pearse and Brenton Hackett opened for Nyora and the former was given a life when dropped at slips on the very first ball and then went with the score on 36.
Nick Fairbank was next to go with the score on 50.
Brenton Hackett made a fine 37 when the score was on 67.
Only two more runs were added when Andrew Collis was out for a duck and at tea Nyora looked shaky being 4/82, with Nathan Smith on 20 and Jake Hackett on two.
Hackett was bowled without adding to his score in the first over after tea.
Nathan Smith and Adam Tagliaferro then steadied the ship with a 38run partnership before the former was out for 35.
Tagliaferro made an excellent 31, Nathan Osler 11 and Kelvin Toogood four.
Brothers Paul and Matt Hendry made an outstanding 10th wicket partnership of 29, Paul making 13 and Matt 10 notout.
Nyora was all out in the 67th over for 180 to end day one.

Nick Fairbank and Kelvin Toogood opened the bowling for Nyora and on the last ball of the first over the former took the first wicket aided by a fine catch by Adam Tagliaferro in slips.
Fairbank got the next wicket with wicketkeeper Brenton Hackett taking the catch.
With Toogood bowling three maidens in a row and Toogood taking two quick wickets Upper Beaconsfield was reeling at 2/5 off five overs.
In Toogood’s next over his good bowling payed off and he took two wickets one lbw and one bowled and Upper Beaconsfield was 4/12 off eight overs.
With the score on 26 Toogood bowled another great ball that broke the bails.
Without any addition to the score he showed his accuracy and again claimed another victim.
Matt Hendry then chipped in with a wicket and at tea it seemed all over Upper Beaconsfield struggling with the score on 7/58 after 36 overs.
After tea, Nathan Osler got his first wicket and the score was 8/72.
This bought Glen Kilburn and Matt Scanlon together and they batted well putting a scare through the Nyora camp with a 69run partnership.
However Toogood struck again taking Kilburn’s wicket for 48 and the very next ball he ended Upper Beaconsfield’s innings, taking the final wicket.
Nathan Osler and Matt Hendry took a wicket each and Upper Beaconsfield was all out in the 58th over for 135.
