Summer cup heats up

SATURDAY saw the first round of the summer cup played at Beaconhills Country Golf Club’s Old course with some excellent scores recorded in pairs matchplay
Numberone qualifiers Kev Candy and Graeme Inglefinger were bundled out by the number16 qualifiers David Crow and Andrew Toon, twoup.
Numberthree qualifiers and Winter Cup winners Paul Blundell and Wayne Davey were defeated by the number14 qualifiers Ray Robertson and Colin Dell 4/2.
One match headed down the 19th and was won by fatherandson combination Steve and Charlie Miranda over Andrew Conn and Dennis Crowley.
The second round of the Summer Cup will be played this Sunday on the Lakes course.

In the par competition on the Lakes course, David Coates had an excellent subpar round to win Agrade with plus seven on a handicap of six.
In Bgrade, Matt Delves won with plusfour on a countback and Ken Smirk was the winner of Cgrade with plusfive.
The juniors played their first round of the under15 championships and Bryan Ling is the leader with nett 33 and he also won the junior competition of the day.
Close behind Bryan are Leigh Pritchard and Noah Kolmus who both returned scores of nett 35 and Chris Broom is one shot further back on nett 36.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:SUNDAY RESULTS

This was the first round of the mixed foursomes championships played on the Lakes course.
With one round to be played, defending champions Andrew Conn and Ann Felgate hold a nineshot lead with a score of 76, from Sally Kunz and Peter Johnston, Alec and Kerri Greig and Steve and Kim Murray who all scored 85.
Leading the nett and the daily mixed winners were John and Jean Wheatley with a net score of 66.
The members’ competition was Stableford and won by Wayne O’Brien with a score of 42 points and the runnerup was Rob Dickinson on a countback with 40 points.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:TUESDAY RESULTS

This was a Stableford event on the Lakes course.
Stuart Mils was the winner with 43 points on a countback from runnerup Peter Matthew who won that on a countback from Les Richards.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:WEDNESDAY RESULTS

Wednesday was the ladies annual meeting for 2006 and 13 holes Stableford followed the formalities of the day.
Gloria Angwin was the winner of the competition with 30 points for the 13 holes.
At the meeting, the members said farewell to the ladies’ captain Nicki Charman and welcomed Libby Anderson to the position.
They also thanked Lynette Forster, Anne Madigan and Deb Holland for their efforts on the committee as they stood down.
Heather Hamilton who comes in as the vicecaptain to assist Libby and Greta DeHoogd and Kim Pitcher was congratulated for joining the hardworking ladies committee.

This was a par competition on the Lakes course.
In Agrade Kevin Crane was the winner on a countback with plusfour, while in Bgrade the vicecaptain and soon to be captain Peter Lockman was the winner with plusfour.

The juniors have been enjoying the VGA pennant season that has seen them play Kingswood and Heidelberg both at their home courses.
The matches have been close however team success has eluded the group.
Next week the team plays Chirnside Park at its course and the last two weeks will be played at Beaconhills.
