Yabbies fail to nip runs

PAKENHAM UpperToomuc (PUT’s) Agrade with only 79 runs to defend failed to contain Emerald’s bats that hit a powerful 384 on Saturday.
With Emerald already at 1/43, the Yabbies couldn’t take the early wickets required.
All the bowlers had good early spells, but as the day wore on, the figures blew out as the batsmen took full toll.

Resuming at 4/74, PUT looked for quick runs at Emerald. Dean Blake (71), Nick Sleep (50), Chris Sharpe (21) and Jake Able (20) boosted the total to 9/246 before the Bombers were asked to bat again. Emerald began much better in its second innings to be 46 without loss, but four wickets fell for just 24 runs and an outright win was in sight. However the Yabbies couldn’t quite get there, Emerald finishing 7/132 with Graeme Tannahill taking 4/28 in a fine debut.

Cardinia fought back from 3/43 to register 199 in its reply to PUT’s 5/355.
Dave Merrigan took 5/80 off 12 overs, Adrian Grey 2/42 off 13 and Brett Maddock 2/19.
Captain Paul Ryan had the Bulls bat again in pursuit of outright points. Ryan (3/51), Merrigan (3/47) and Luke Gunton (2/18) were the main wicket takers and Cardinia was all out for 161, leaving just six runs to win that was easily reached.

The Yabbies comfortably passed Beaconsfield’s 113 to register a win, thanks to a steady opening partnership of 77 from Ben Clough (26) and Dave Ryan (47). Further runs to Jon Rewell (13), Peter Reid (18) and Tyson Carey (34) saw PUT 7/190 at stumps.

Jackson Fromhold produced a fine performance behind the stumps against Beaconsfield.
Matt Dinnie (2/14), good spin bowling from James Parnell (1/12) on a wet track and a good team fielding performance saw both sides finish tied on 123 runs in an entertaining match.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:UNDER 11 GOLD

PUT played Upper Beaconsfield and all players tried their best. This week showed a huge improvement with their fielding and a great team effort.
Grant Papworth and Dean Jackson did a great job in the field, preventing runs. Brody Pearse took a great catch. Top batters were Mitch Sayburn (10), Thomas Wilmott (7), Mitch Lewis (3). Good bowling performances came from Dean Jackson, Esther Bardwell, Mitch Lewis and Mitch Sayburn.
