JOHN Piner fired an excellent 42 Stableford points to win Agrade at Drouin Golf Club on Saturday.
There were 107 players in the field and plenty of good scores.
John Piner (handicap nine) won by three shots and is now down to eight.
Three players, who all scored 39 points, had to be separated on a countback for the runnerup prize.
The winner was John White from Goran Danilov and Phil Thomson. Phil Adams was next best in Agrade with 38.
Zed Wieclaw (handicap 17) won Bgrade with 40 points, two shots clear of four others who also had to be separated by a countback. They included Josef Kawalko, who was declared runnerup from John Denhom, Les Madden and Barry Dyson.
Bob Ross (21) was the day’s highest scorer, winning Cgrade with 43 points. He will lose three shots off is handicap and will have to do battle with the Bgraders.
Runnerup was Andrew McKenna (25) with 42 points on a countback from Jack Henning.
Tom Piner was next in Cgrade with 40, followed by Brian Kemp 39.
Nearest the pins 14th: Mike Mareska, 17th: Mike Herman, 19th: Mick Whitford, 23rd: John White.
The CCR was 71 and balls went down to 37 on a countback.
WEDNESDAY RESULTS
Despite the record low temperature three brave persons completed a round of 18 holes only to discover they were all alone and the competition was a nonevent.
The adventurous trio were Phil Edwards, Peter Brown and John Denholm.
THURSDAY RESULTS
The men’s senior ninehole event was won by Con Norris with 19 points from Graeme Brenchley (18) and Jim McCormack (18).
GUEST DAY
Members are encouraged to invite a friend for a game at Drouin this Saturday with the event being a individual stroke guest day.
LADIES
Last Tuesday 32 members braved a cold wind to contest a stroke event and play off for the Star Medal, sponsored by Jill Greenland. The CCR was 73 nett.
The winner of the Star Medal with 75 nett was Irene Morgan.
The Agrade winner with 74 nett was Audrey Smethurst and the runnerup was Irene Morgan.
Bgrade winner and with the best score of the day was Kay Grieve with 70 nett. The runnerup, with 72 nett, was Sue Hatfield.
Nearest the pin on the 14th was Joyce Pierrehumbert. No one claimed the second or the propin that will jackpot to next week.
Downtheline balls went to Robyn Eacott 73 nett, Shirley Todd 76 and Betsy White 77.
The Thursday ninehole seniors’ competition was won by Heather Fitzpatrick with 20 points.
Runnersup were Edna Cropley 16, Pam Roberts, Pos Leeson and Olive Reid all on 15 points.
This week is again stroke with the top 16 players to qualify for the Summer Matchplay Championship, sponsored by John Isles Transport Pty Ltd.
Also this week Diane Baskett is sponsoring the inaugural nontrophy winners trophy for those who have not won one during the year.
Next week will be Stableford and the first round of the summer competition sponsored by Warragul Club and Downtowner Bistro.
