Red Cross shop offers help and hope

BERWICK now has its own Red Cross Shop.
Australian Red Cross opened the Berwick shop, its 50th retail shop in Victoria and Tasmania, last Thursday.
Volunteers who will work in the Berwick store were on hand to see the shop officially opened by Red Cross Victoria executive director Andrew Hilton.
The bargain retail haven is tucked in Adams Lane, opposite the IGA supermarket and is brimming with beautiful garments at great prices.
Volunteers from the local area staff the shop and have spent the last couple of weeks unpacking, sorting, pricing, steaming and merchandising in preparation for the opening, according to Cindy Filips, retail area supervisor with Australian Red Cross.
Ms Filips has supported the team through their initiation into the retail business.
“The volunteers are really enthusiastic and have been learning new skills form operating the EFTPOS system to coordinating items for display,” Ms Filips said.
The shop carries range of recycled clothes are modern, clean and unusual for men and women. To complement the recycled range there is a display of new jewellery and handbags.
“We’re looking forward to great support from the local community and in return Red Cross is able to support those in need in the community through its emergency and community services,” said Ms Filips.
The Red Cross shop is open from 9.30am to 5pm weekdays, and 9.30am to 1pm on Saturdays.
