Top students harness awards

ABOUT 120 guests attended the 10th annual Gippsland Harness Training Centre dinner in Warragul on Saturday night where three students were presented with awards for their achievements in 2006.
The Personal Development award was won by Jessica Huysman, the Student of the Year by Nikki White and Harness Racing Victoria Industry Excellence Award by Rhys Chappell.
Another highlight of the evening was the surprise presentation of a life membership of the Warragul and District Light Harness Club to club stalwart Bill Trewern.
Bill has served the club in numerous volunteer capacities for many years.
Last Thursday afternoon, a harness race meeting was also conducted at Warragul.
The eight races drew strong entries, although local stables had little to cheer about, with most winners coming from outside the area.
The third race was won by tenyearold pacer Clock Of Life, scoring his second victory for the week, having won at Maryborough the previous Monday.
Harness racing returns to Warragul on Friday, 15 December, where many local businesses will be enjoying endofyear breakups.
