Winning combo at Drouin

IT was a day out for Brad Frost and Don Thomson at Drouin Golf Club on Saturday.
They not only won the fourballbestball event with an excellent score of +10, but earned numberone ranking in the second qualifying round of the Summer Cup with +17 on a countback from two other pairs.
In the Saturday competition they edged out the pairing of Malcolm Hartland and Syd Wood on a countback.
Jim Gregory and Mark Smith scored +9 as did Darryl Bryce and John Piner. Balls down the line went to +8 on a countback.
Nearest the pins – second: Rolf Loebert, fifth (pro pin): Mick Herman, 14th: John Denholm, 17th: Don Thomson.

The top eight pairs over the past two weeks have qualified for the quarter finals of the Summer Cup.
Quarter finals matches to be played by 10 February: (1) Don Thomson and Brad Frost v (8) Peter Devries and Rob Palmer, (2) Henk Otterspoor and Mike Waring v (7) Shane McKiernan and Barry Cunningham, (3) Lester Smethurst and Bruce Horskins v (6) John Gardiner and Josef Kawalko, (4) Doug Clark and Rolf Loebert v (5) Glenn Flowers and Tom Flowers.

Danny Gorman (handicap 20) was the star of last week’s Stableford competition, scoring 44 points on his way to victory in Bgrade. He continues to trim his handicap and may find himself in Agrade soon.
Henk VanDerVeen was the Bgrade runnerup with 42 from Jeff Mirams 41, Benny Wyatt 40 and Neil Williams 40.
Peter Downward (handicap nine) won Agrade with a solid 39 points. Simon McLennan was runnerup with 37 on a countback from Jeff Tellefson and Charlie Hardy.
Ron Nocentini (handicap 23) was the Cgrade winner also with 39, on a countback from Rex Bastin. Greg Patterson and Con Norris both scored 38.
Nearest the pins Brian Maunder, fifth (propin) John Denholm, 14th, Ron Nocentini. Balls down the line went to 38 on a countback and the CCR was 71.

Peter Andreasen won the senior ninehole event with an impressive 22 points from Peter Anderson 21 and Doug Clark 21. Roger Montgomery and Keith Andrews were next on 20.
