Best golfers set to shine

BERWICK Montuna Golf Club will host future stars of Australian golf at its annual proam this Thursday, 1 March.
The event has attracted a strong field of more than 80 professionals who will compete for prize money of $8000.
Local Ashley Hall will be out to impress in his first professional event at his home club.
Hall, 24, has made an immediate impact in his short professional career, having won the NAB Victorian PGA Championships, part of the Von Nida Tour, last month.
He described it as a huge thrill to win the event in only his first month as a pro.
“It was even more special, as I got to share it with my family who have been supporting me throughout the years,” he said.
“I’m looking forward to taking on my fellow peers in my ‘own backyard’ having grown up here at Berwick Montuna.”
Hall will have stiff opposition from the 2006 champion Andrew Pitt, who finished a creditable 11th at last week’s Jacobs Creek Open in Adelaide.
The field also includes other big names such as Euan Walters, Scott Laycock, Michael Harwood, Ben Bunny, Jason Norris and Marty Doyle.
Such tournaments provide a unique opportunity for amateur golfers with the chance to play alongside a pro.
Spectators will have a chance to see some of the country’s best young golfing talents.
Visitors wishing to come along and see the stars in action can do so, with morning and afternoon fields playing. Entry is free.
