Club tops up to beat drought

BERWICK Bowling Club is feeling the impact of the severe drought and needs to supplement its onsite water system.
Club board member Reg Rowswell said the water recycling system commissioned in mid2006 depended on average rainfall.
“This has not been forthcoming over the past five months, so the club has taken another initiative to supplement the system,” he said.
“We have had Class C water from South East Water delivered to supplement our system with 39,000 litres received on Monday, 5 February.
“We have droughtproofed the Berwick Bowling Club, but this supply has an expense attached to it.
“We will need to top up intermittently and the arrangement will save our greens, in the event of further hot weather.”
Meanwhile, the club has been able to continue its corporate challenge tournament contested by 42 teams entered from Casey businesses.
This highly popular event runs for four Monday nights with more than 150 participants on each night enjoying a great night with a meal and a game of bowls.
The club has also arranged a retirement village challenge for Tuesday, 20 March starting at 10.30am.
Representative teams from all the retirement villages in Casey, along with members of Probus, will enjoy a morning of bowls, lunch and more bowls during the afternoon.
The City of Casey has sponsored the tournament under the Ageing Positively Grants Program.
