SATURDAY’S pennant bowls were played in difficult, blustery conditions, but showed it would be an exciting season in division one.
After three rounds all sides have been defeated and only Longwarry is yet to record a win, but others should not take it lightly as Drouin battled to get up by 11 shots in their tussle.
In the match of the round Traralgon beat Moe 85/72 for the first time in many matches.
Traralgon got away to a good start and held its lead throughout the day to run out 13-shot winners.
In other matches Trafalgar surprised Morwell Club by winning 102/84 to be ladder leaders after three rounds.
Yallourn was too good for Neerim winning 97/81 and Drouin proved too steady for Longwarry winning 99/88.
In division two, leaders, Traralgon (2) had a solid win over Yallourn North 105/84.
Moe crunched RSL 128/69, Warragul won 102/91 over Thorpdale and Garfield had a narrow win 95/89 over Traralgon (3).
In division three, Drouin was too good for Warragul beating it 105/86, Morwell Club had a massive 122/77 win against inter-town rivals, Morwell, Boolarra beat Trafalgar 93/92 in a photo-finish and Yallourn won comfortably 92/77 over Yinnar.
Division four saw RSL win well 115/90 against Yallourn North, Yarragon won 104/90 over Moe, Warragul easily beat Traralgon 112/70 and Morwell narrowly beat Yallourn 95/92.
In division five, Morwell Club decimated Trafalgar Park with a massive 113/49 victory and Boolarra did likewise to Traralgon winning 111/47.
Yallourn beat Drouin 73/65 and Neerim had a four-shot 71/67 win against Yinnar.
In division six, East Yarragon had a close battle with Trafalgar before winning 47/42, Morwell more than doubled Moe (5)’s score by winning 70/32 and RSL beat Moe (4).
On Sunday Mid Gippsland won the group eight Round Robin at Maffra for the second year running.
At the end of play, group selectors chose the following Mid Gippsland players for the group sides championship at Corowa on 7 and 8 January.
Paul Twyerould, Ian Caines and Alex Muirhead from Moe, Alan Ralls from Morwell Club, Greg King from Neerim and Neville Collie from Drouin.
