NEW laws restricting the use of recreational vehicles in Cardinia Shire highlighted the need for a public motorsports facility, councillor Brett Owen has claimed.
Cr Owen said the new policy banned motorbike riding in a large area of the shire and placed severe limits on their use in other areas.
“If council has any credibility we must provide or assist to get a motorsports facility up and going,” Cr Owen said.
“If we do that we can stand tall.”
When they adopted the recreational vehicle policy at their 11 December meeting, councillors supported Cr Bill Pearson’s move to have the regulations reviewed after 12 months.
Cr Doug Hamilton said the issue had been a most difficult one for the council.
“This is our second crack at it to try and get a reasonable outcome,” he said.
