NAR Nar Goon-Maryknoll senior sides spent Saturday in the field working hard to restrict scoring on a good day for batting.
A GRADE
A great opening spell by Brendon McGrath (1/13) and Ken McLeod (0/15) set the scene and Craig Lewis and David Harvie toiled hard before tea to have Merinda Park 2/61 off 43 overs.
Knowing Merinda Park would come out looking to make quick runs, Nar Nar Goon kept the pressure on with good bowling and fielding.
Merinda Park finished the day 4/200 but Nar Nar Goon did not do much wrong.
McGrath (1/46 off 25 overs) and McLeod (1/55 off 23) toiled hard all day and Lewis (0/30) and Harvie (0/78) offered good support.
The club congratulated Brent Hughes on his A-grade debut on his 15th birthday.
C GRADE
After winning the toss Nar Nar Goon bowled and Catani had started well at 0/60 at drinks.
After drinks, Paul Govaars got the breakthrough, bowling Tim Miller for 42.
Catani batted intelligently, most batsmen getting a start, and made 9/209 off the required 70 overs.
Govaars took 4/62 off 24 fiery overs, Shaun McGrath 2/24 and Simon Sweeney 1/26.
D GRADE
After winning the toss and deciding to bat the Marygoons did not get off to the start the new batting order promised when Scott Campbell was run out in the second over.
Shannon Stocco and Leigh Thompkins put on 43 for the second wicket until Stocco’s at times lucky innings ended. Thompkins was out for a patient 30.
Col Hodson seemed to like batting in more familiar territory, making a solid 24 before being caught superbly behind the wicket.
The Marygoons were dismissed in the 55th over for 110.
Bowling a dozen overs at Emerald top order, Hodson got a breakthrough in his second over and was backed up by tight bowling by Sean Somers and Duane Lucas.
F GRADE
Playing Kilcunda-Bass away, Nar Nar Goon lost the toss and bowled.
Great bowling by Chris Smith and Nathan Van Steensel bogged down Kilcunda-Bass at 3/100 after 25 overs.
After that the Bassmen hit out and made another 85.
The Goon went in and faced a bad start in the first over, but Chris Smith and Nick Pollock steadied before a collapse.
Andy Raabe (14 not out) came in and with the help of Luke Harrop knocked the ball around. Nar Nar Goon was all out for 68.
UNDER 16
Beaconsfield resumed 2/25 and Nathan Van Steensel bowled very well for 3/20 off eight overs, Chris Smith took 1/12 and Austin Van Strijp 2/19.
At drinks Beaconsfield was 6/63 and the Goon had a good chance to take the points, but good batting got Beaconsfield over the line.
Jarrod Mendrix in his first bowl for the year claimed 2/4, Josh Lownds took 1/2 and Jake Edyvane 2/0.
Nar Nar Goon ended up bowling Beaconsfield out for 126.
