CARDINIA Shire councillors have voted to restore the town’s outdoor pool.
Residents in the gallery cheered on Monday night as councillors voted six to one to go ahead with the muchdebated restoration.
The decision will see the council employ Peter Farley Pool Maintenance and Nar Nar Goon’s Woftam Group to carry out the work.
The total cost of the refurbishment will exceed $800,000.
Mayor Bill Ronald led the decision, saying debate over the pool had raged for six years and it was time the council responded to the community’s wish to have it reopened.
Save the Pakenham Pool committee president Dot Murphy said the decision was a dream come true.
Full report in next week’s Gazette.
