RESIDENTS have been invited to nominate significant trees in the city of Casey for a council tree study.
Casey mayor Colin Butler asked residents to take part in the study and to recognise the importance of trees in their lives and landscapes.
He said significant trees could be those dedicated to an important event or important people, such as an avenue of honour to remember soldiers killed at war or early pioneers.
“They can also be large and mature trees that will take decades to replace, a stand of trees indigenous to the area, trees of environmental and scientific value, providing an important habitat for birds and animals, or even an iconic tree in your neighbourhood.
“There is no shortage of important trees across Casey worthy of nomination.”
He said the study would make Casey a more environmentally conscious place, give life to streets, help recognise the importance of trees to the landscape, and how aesthetically pleasing trees were to the eye.
Tree nomination forms are available from the council’s website at www.casey.vic.gov.au/treestudy or customer service centres or by calling 9705 5200. Nominations should be lodged by Wednesday, 28 February.
