BRETT Dessent (handicap six) led a field of 88 who braved the cold conditions at Drouin Golf Club on Saturday, to win the Par event for A grade with plusfour.
Darren Adams was runner up with plusone.
Other better scores in A grade were Ryan Radford, Peter Blackwell, Tony Piner and Darryl Brain all finishing square.
Graham Rawson (handicap 19) also had a great day winning B grade with plusfour and reducing his handicap.
Vin Bibby was the Bgrade runnerup on a countback with plusone from Jack Gough. Garry Websdale was next with square.
Craig Armstrong (24) continues to bring his handicap down, winning C grade with plusthree from runnerup George Nicholson, plustwo. Stuart Low and Merv Peel were next on 1.
Nearest to pins – seventh: Ryan Radford, 19th: John Fusinato, 23rd (pro pin): Barry Cunningham.
The CCR was 72.
WEDNESDAY RESULTS
The Stableford competition attracted a good field of 102 players with many visitors in the field.
Rex Amey (10) won A grade with 38 points from runnerup Leon Cook 37.
Tom Flowers (20) was a clear winner in B grade, also with 38 points from John Wolswinkel 35.
Jim McCormack (22) returned with the day’s highest score to win C grade with 39 points from George Connor 37 and Ray Cropley 36.
Nearest to pins 14th: Les Madden, 19th: Shane Dwyer, 23rd (pro pin): Charlie Hardy.
The CCR was the maximum 74 and balls down the line went to 33 on a countback.
THURSDAY RESULTS
Zed Wieclaw and Charlie Hardy tied in last Thursday’s seniors’ ninehole event with 20 points each.
Lester Smethurst was next on 19 followed by Phil Edwards 18.
Audrey Smethurst won the ladies with 17 from Heather Fitzpatrick, 16.
COMING EVENTS
This Saturday is the foursomes championships.
There will be an overflow Par event for those not wanting to play in the foursomes.
Players in the overflow Par event must hit off before 9.30am with the foursomes championship to follow.
LADIES
After a cold start on Tuesday, 4 July, the weather warmed up nicely for the players who contested a stroke event for the July monthly medal. The CCR was 76 nett.
Agrade players Margaret Purcell and Mary Tymensen tied with a score of 74 nett and will play off for the monthly medal on the next stroke day, Tuesday 18 July.
Bgrade winner was Glenda Warren with 76 nett on a countback to runnerup Sharon Rippon.
Nearest the pin on the second was Margaret Purcell and on the 14th was Jill Brenchley. The propin was won by Margaret Purcell.
Downtheline balls went to Shirley Todd 75 nett, Elaine Howlett 77 nett, Jill Brenchley 77 nett and Irene Morgan 78 nett.
COMING EVENTS
This week is Stableford and the final round of the Eileen Smith fourballbestball match play.
Next week (18 July) is stroke, Captain’s Trophy with eight to qualify for match play.
PEUGEOT GOLF CLASSIC
Drouin Golf Club hosted its round of the Peugeot Women’s Golf Classic 2006 recently.
The new national competition is hosted by Peugeot Automobiles Australia and Women’s Golf Australia
The day was a great success with Peugeot Australia and Drouin Golf Club congratulating the winning team: Margaret Purcell, Beverley Goodwin and Shirley Todd.
State finals will be held in November and the winners of that will fly to Sydney for the 2007 Women’s Australian Open.
The eventual national winning team will win an allexpensespaid trip to Paris to the Peugeot International Proam.
Late last year, Women’s Golf Australia announced its unprecedented sponsorship agreement with Peugeot Australia, valued at a quarter of a million dollars.
Rob Dommerson, managing director of Peugeot Australia said the company was proud to be associated with such a great amateur tournament.
“We’re pleased to be able to add a touch of French style to Australian golf,” he said.
