GEMBROOK’S Cgrade cricketers returned to Beaconsfield to defend 237 runs made on day one, knowing it would be a tight game with Beaconsfield sitting first on the ladder.
The game was in the balance and play fluctuated all day with both sides obtaining the advantage at times.
In the end the difference between the sides was Grant Whytcross, who bowled superbly with 5/61 from 18 overs.
He was assisted by Marty Williams (2/27 off 9) and Aiden Weichard (1/25 off 6).
This was a great game of cricket between two even sides, played fairly with a real competitive edge.
Beaconsfield was finally bowled out for 216, giving Gembrook a hardfought victory by 21 runs.

Gembrook returned to finish the game against Beaconsfield, having won on first innings points on day one.
At stumps on day one, Gembrook was 5/187 and batted for a further 11 overs, declaring with the score at 9/238.
The best of the batsmen were Jason Hill (81), Clint Osseweyer (62) and Jy Berryman (25).
Gembrook then bowled Beaconsfield out for 66 in 27 overs, gaining an important outright win.
This was mainly due to the fiery attack of Mark Costa, who finished with the brilliant bowling figures of 3/14 from 8 overs, assisted by Daniel Fry with 2/28 from 8 and Jeremy Everitt with 1/10 off 6 overs.
It was a great win by the Brookers who earned 20 points for a great team effort with bat and ball.
