Coverup helps steal the show

BERWICK Show was hit by heavy rain on Saturday, just as Premier Steve Bracks was due to arrive to officially open the event.
This meant a flurry of action to bring the official opening under cover, but it happened.
Show president Andrew Dedlefs said things had to be changed quickly, but it worked despite the stress.
Andrew said the show had a good turn up on Saturday and Sunday although gate takings would be down for the weekend.
He apologised for having to close the gates at 6pm, but safety and comfort of participants was a priority.
“We had flooding and the grounds became dangerous so we could not risk injury to someone.”
Andrew said he was disappointed that the grand parade had to be cancelled after so much planning, but pleased that people came back for the Sunday.
“I was pleased that people were able to come out and see the Premier at such close quarters.
“It turned out that even if we had conducted the fireworks, heavy rain fell at the time they were due,” he said.
“We had the rain, but we still had a good show,” he said.
