CASEY manager of youth and community development Janette Green said the City of Casey encouraged people to attend a series of forums designed to assist disability advocacy.
Ms Green said the council had created an exciting opportunity to assist disability support groups to become confident and effective resources to the community with a free threeday training workshop entitled Being Heard – Solutions Not Problems.
Access Solutions National will facilitate the training forum, which offers extensive networking opportunities and incorporates topic such as understanding group dynamics, meeting procedures, council processes, confidentiality and privacy, decisionmaking and disability awareness.
“It is important that disability advocacy groups are selfsufficient and effective in representing their cause,” Ms Green said.
“The training workshop addresses many challenges which face advocacy groups, enabling them to become more effectual.”
The threeday workshop is open to one representative of each relevant organisation and will be held on three consecutive Mondays – 22 and 29 May and 5 June.
Times are 9.30am to 2.30pm at the Casey Civic Centre.
