Get hooked on fishing

Glen Atwell
PAKENHAM Angling Club is encouraging everyone interested in wetting a line to give it a go and October is the month to do it.
The threeweek program ‘OctoberFish’, sponsored by the Rex Hunt Fishing Foundation, is designed to encourage children to try their luck with the line and celebrate the rich fishing resources scattered throughout Victoria.
Club president Tim Ahern said the event was a good way to get involved in the sport.
“Last year it didn’t have much luck, but this year it’s much better and has a heap more support,” he said.
For keen anglers in Cardinia and Casey, Emerald Lake is the place to be next Sunday, 9 October, between 10am and 3pm.
Fishing experts will be onhand to offer some expert advice and for children there are showbags and fishing clinics designed to teach the little one the basics of reeling in a beauty.
Mr Ahern said locals should get behind the day and support it as much as they could.
“It will be a terrific day and will be great to see plenty of faces up at Emerald Lake,” he said.
