Iona ties it up in thriller

IN a thrilling finish Iona seniors and Garfield tied in their Warragul and District Cricket Association clash on Saturday
In pursuit of Iona’s total of 240, Garfield started badly losing two early wickets.
P. Tribe and B. Runnals then set about resurrecting the situation as they combined for a brilliant partnership of 191 runs.
Runnals was the star as he amassed a superb 123.
When Michael Neilson picked up the valuable wicket of Runnals things quickly changed as wickets continued to fall, thanks to the likes of Will Grbic and Neilson who also took the other crucial wicket of P. Tribe for 65.
The collapse continued and the pressure was on with Garfield now needing 11 runs with one wicket in hand.
With the scores tied B. Burns hit one straight to a fielder and was out caught off the bowling of Neilson who turned the match Iona’s way and finished with figures of 4/36.

Defending 172 from last week Iona started well as Ross Donoghue took two wickets in the space of three balls to have Garfield 2/22.
A. Bliss and M. Cousin then combined for a solid partnership of 39 before Bliss was caught by Toby Hurst.
Phil Medley came back on with immediate effect as M. Cousin hit one straight to Gary Donoghue and just before the break Ross Donoghue picked up his fourth wicket with Garfield’s score now 5/96 and the game in the balance.
Early into the second half of the day, Iona found itself with some issues as Medley and Ross Donoghue both broke down and with skipper Gary Donoghue bowling poorly Iona was forced to turn to some secondstring bowlers.
It ended up being Garfield’s day as the side finished all out for 260.
