TRAFFIC concerns have prompted plans for a new supermarket and five shops at Beaconsfield to be put on hold.
Authorities want to take another look at the plans to ease what it believes could be problems with access to and from the proposed development.
Cardinia Shire councillors had been expected to vote for a permit for the development at their 19 March meeting but were told the application had been withdrawn.
Council general manager of planning and development Phil Walton said VicRoads had several concerns and wanted further discussion with the developers.
Mr Walton said VicRoads was particularly concerned about the entrance into the new complex proposed behind Aldi in the Beaconsfield shopping centre.
Central Ward councillor Brett Owen said he was also concerned about access to and from the development from the Old Princes Highway.
“I’m happy for this to be deferred,” he said.
The issue will return to council later in the year.
Five objections were lodged by residents, but town planners have recommended the development go ahead, subject to conditions.
