Teachers get set for classes

TEACHERS went back to school last week.
More than 200 primary and secondary teachers from schools at Kooweerup, Bayles, Lang Lang, Cardinia, Clyde, Tooradin and Devon Meadows gathered for a curriculum day that will help set the education agenda for the next year.
Teachers shared ideas and looked at new requirements in terms of uniform school reports and other innovations.
The oneday session featured a series of workshops held at Kooweerup Secondary College.
Department of Education and Training regional director of education Peter Greenwell was a special guest at the event last Thursday.
Also attending were senior education officer for the Cranbourne network Peter Hanley, special projects student wellbeing manager for the Office of School Education Karen Underwood, who facilitated a discussion group on students with disabilities.
DEAT senior project officer Janice Youl and Carolyn McCabe of Education Channel did a joint workshop covering information communications technology.
Kooweerup Secondary College’s assistant principal Leonie McGinley said it was a very big event both for the school and the wider community.
“It got teachers talking together about better ways of teaching,” she said.
Ms McGinley paid tribute to the teachers for their efforts. She also thanked the Cardinia Primary School parents association for a delicious lunch.
The yearly gettogether was a valuable exercise, Ms McGinley said.
This year, rather than pay up to $5000 for professional speakers, teachers had conducted their own workshops with very pleasing results, she said.
