Toastmasters raise interest

A TOASTMASTERS club is to be established in Pakenham.
Residents wanting to gain confidence, learn leadership skills and become effective public speakers as well as meeting new friends have been urged to attend a public meeting at the Pakenham Town Hall.
The meeting on Thursday, 23 February at 7.45pm will be hosted by Toastmasters International governor of marketing Jacqueline Gullick.
Ms Gullick said there were many benefits to be had by joining the organisation.
“Much of people’s success in life will depend on their ability to speak and present themselves,” she said.
“Toastmasters International provides tools to help people to develop these skills.
“In Toastmasters you ‘learn by doing’ in a fun and mutually supportive environment.
“We are keen to start a Toastmasters Club in Pakenham.
“At the meeting next week, experienced members will demonstrate a typical Toastmaster meeting.”
Ms Gullick and business development manager Marlene Sinclair are driving forces behind the bid to establish a local Toastmasters.
They said they had already received an encouraging response from the community.
Ms Gullick said Toastmasters could help people to organise ideas logically, speak clearly and effectively, face and audience without fear and develop and present ideas persuasively.
“Toastmasters can motivate ourselves and others, become effective leaders and team players, accept feedback objectively and improve listening skills.”
