A real recipe for cooking success

By Elizabeth Lillis
CARDINIA residents will have an opportunity to learn how to cook simple meals at classes run by the 4Cs in Pakenham.
The 4Cs (Cardinia Combined Churches Caring) is a charity organisation that provides food and other support services for people in need.
“The classes will be taken by local chef John Hardy, who has volunteered his time,” 4Cs administration manager Sue Friend said.
The classes will be held on the first Wednesday of the month.
“There will be four participants per class to make it easy for people to ask questions and join in with the lesson,” Ms Friend said. “The classes are open to anyone who wants to learn to cook cheap and healthy meals.”
The class will begin with information on kitchen hygiene and food safety.
“We hope then clients can buy ingredients from the foodbank to cook the recipes at home,” Mrs Friend said.
“We hope people can learn to make simple things like a basic spaghetti sauce and then choose to cook that at home rather opting for a takeaway that may be more expensive,” she said.
Recipes cooked in the classes will come from the 4Cs own cookbook.
The organisation is also after support from local traders for fresh ingredients for the classes.
“We are particularly looking for a butcher to help with the supply of meat,” Ms Friend said.
Registrations to start learning at the March class can be made by contacting the 4Cs on 5941 2268.
