Badwacas tackle trail for charity

Jim Mynard
BERWICK’S Mick Rogers and a few mates will tackle the tough Oxfam Trailwalker Charity Endurance Walk to help overcome world poverty.
Mr Rogers said Trailwalker was one of the toughest team events in the world, in which teams of four aimed to complete a demanding 100kilometre walk in less than 48 hours.
Money is raised for Oxfam Community Aid Abroad through donations in support of each team.
Donations can be sent to Oxfam through the website www.oxfam.org.au/trailwalker or contacting Mr Rogers on 9707 5461.
“We aim to complete this year’s walk in less than 30 hours to improve on last year’s effort by more than eight hours,” he said.
Members of the Badwacas team are Mr Rogers, David Ireland and Ian Smith of Berwick and Peter Dayson of Upper Beaconsfield.
The Melbourne walk raised $1.5 million last year.
This year the walk will be from Jells Park, Wheelers Hill, through the Corhanwarrabul Wetlands, east through the Churchill and Lysterfield National Parks, then north through Belgrave and the Dandenong Ranges National Park.
Walkers will then move along the Warburton Trail and north to finish on the Mt Donna Buang Summit.
