EMERALD Agrade bowlers toiled hard against Kooweerup dismissing the visitors for 259 in the first game of the season on Saturday.
With five changes from last season’s team, the Bombers lost the toss and were asked to bowl.
Cam Williams and Andrew Farrier bowled well, but it wasn’t until Quenten Lucas’ first over with the score on 55 that the first wicket fell.
Emerald looked to be struggling when the score reached 1/102, but then a good spell of bowling by Tim Sproule and Lucas saw the score fall to 6/142.
After tea, the Bombers struggled to gain the breakthrough they were searching for and in the 71st over Brodie Lucas was rewarded for his tight bowling with a wicket. The last three wickets fell quickly as Emerald bowled Kooweerup out in the 76th over. For Emerald Tim Sproule, with 3/53, and Quenten Lucas 4/53, off 19 overs were the best bowlers.
B GRADE
Emerald played an away game against Upper Beaconsfield and bowled first in good conditions. Clinton Marsh and Jay Kliensmit opened the bowling and both bowled well and it was Marsh who got the first wicket.
The bombers bowlers all bowled well but up to lunch it was Marsh who had all the wickets as the score sat on 5/100. After tea Aaron Cameron and Andrew Walker both bowled well as the runs dried up and Walker was rewarded with his first wicket and Emerald’s sixth.
Jay Kliensmit came back on and got a wicket as Emerald struggled to get the Upper Beaconsfield lower order out. Marsh was a standout bower with five wickets as they reached the score of 8/210 off their 70 overs.
D GRADE
Emerald played at home against Cardinia, won the toss and bowled.
The Bombers got off to a good start and that continued as they bowled Cardinia out for 100 within 35 overs.
Rod Smith (3/27) and Lee Ligtermoet (2/17) got Emerald off to a good start and then Mark Hamilton (219) and Glen Maunder (1/24) also contributed in the Bombers’ strong bowling performance.
With 32 overs to bat, the bombers tried to bat themselves into a good position and did that with the stumps score sitting at 4/74. Rod Smith continued his good day with a fine 36 while Jim Burke and Jesse Mather did well to see the bombers to the end of play in a good position.
