DOVETON fullforward Danny Casset was awarded the Gazette Player of the Year award at Monday’s MPNFL vote count night.
The award was revamped this season with senior coaches from the 12 league clubs asked to rate the three players they considered the most valuable to teams other than their own, on a threetwoonevote basis.
Casset won the award with 11 votes from teammate Ryan Brown and Beaconsfield ruckman Chris Kelf on eight and Narre Warren goalmachine Lee Clark on six votes.
Casset, 32, has been a football nomad and joined the Doves after a year with Rennie in the New South Walesbased Coreen and District League last season.
He spent 2005 in the key forward post and has kicked 93 goals to date as the focal point of the side. His strong highleaping marking is a feature, although his accuracy in front of goal has been spasmodic on occasions this year.
Casset was also selected at fullforward in the Gazette CaseyCardinia League Team of the Year.
