Lifesaver deserves a pat on the back

By Paul Dunlop
A GRANDMOTHER who almost choked while having lunch last week wants to find the mystery man who saved her so she can say thanks.
Pakenham’s Joy Edwards was eating a Chinese meal in the food court at Fountain Gate shopping centre when a piece of chicken became stuck in her throat, stopping her breathing.
Mrs Edwards said she thought she was going to die, but a man saw her distress and came to her rescue.
A grateful Mrs Edwards said she would like to show her appreciation by buying her gallant saviour dinner but did not know how to get into contact with him.
She is hoping to contact the mystery man via the Gazette.
“I’d like to thank him for saving my life,” Mrs Edwards said.
“My daughter and I had been shopping and we were having lunch when all of a sudden something caught in my throat and I couldn’t breathe.
“I was sitting there, starting to panic. My daughter had taken my grandson to the bathroom, so I was on my own.
“I must have looked funny in the face because the man came running up to me. He told me to try and breathe through my nose and then gave me a jolt on the back.
“I don’t know what he did but whatever it was it dislodged the meat. He asked if I was okay but didn’t hang around.”
“I managed to say thanks but I would like to show my appreciation by shouting him out for dinner or something. He needs a gold medal.”
