Love of the unborn

ON Wednesday 25 January a funeral was held at Cowes, Phillip Island for a special priest, Fr Laurie Cusack.
Attending his funeral was the Bishop of Sale diocese Bishop Coffey, many fellow priests and the president of the National Civic Council, Peter Westmore.
Throughout his lifetime, Fr Cusack wrote numerous letters to papers all over Australia on the subject of the protection of life – that is, the unborn and the care of the sick and elderly.
He was totally opposed to abortion at all stages of pregnancy.
He was rewarded for his strong stance when he received a letter from a young woman who had decided to have an abortion, but having read one of Fr Laurie’s letters where he stated that baby’s were a gift from God and should be given the chance to be born.
Upon reading the letter in the paper the young woman changed her mind and wrote to Fr Laurie telling him what joy she now had looking at her beautiful daughter.
I’m certain if Fr Laurie were with us today he would be writing to lots of papers against the legalisation of the abortion pill RU486.
Fr Laurie would have been 79 years of age on 8 September, God’s mother’s birthday.
His mother conceived him soon after his brother was born, and her health not being good at the time, a doctor advised her to abort her baby.
Fr Laurie’s mother, luckily decided against this advice.
I suppose it was no wonder he had a great love for the unborn.
Frank Clark,
Cora Lynn.
