THREE motorists have blown over the limit in Cardinia as police continue a campaign to stamp out the “booze and cruise” mentality.
A total of 842 motorists have been breathtested by police at the halfway point of Operation Filter, a twomonth operation targeting drink driving.
Cardinia TMU Sergeant Peter Garton said police were quite happy with the results, which showed the vast majority of motorists were doing the right thing.
“Hopefully our message is getting out there. Drink driving will not be tolerated,” Sgt Garton said.
Operation Filter began in late November and will continue until the end of the month.
The TACfunded operation has seen police out late at night on back roads and outside local watering holes.
Police are patrolling roads around pubs in smaller towns in a bid to catch drinkdrivers who use back roads as a rat run to avoid booze buses or police.
“If people think they can have a drink and then get home the back way, they might get a surprise,” Sgt Garton said.
