ROC’s costly quarter

A POOR third quarter proved costly for ROC seniors on Saturday, going down to Beaconsfield by 17 points.
Playing at Starling Road for the Shanika’s Cup, the loss was a big hit on the Kangaroos finals’ hopes.
When the challenge was put to ROC to show how it could handle pressure football, many of the players went missing and the result was a quarter of football where Beaconsfield raced to a sevengoal lead.
The Kangaroos are now trying to hang on to their topfive berth.
A threequartertime roast from coach Hayden Stanton jolted the team into action, but a dominant final quarter was not enough to claw back the deficit.
Craig Eagleton, Brad Jones and Darren De Jong were the few that played consistently well for ROC.
Scores: Beaconsfield 18.11.119 d ROC 15.12.102.
Goals – ROC: J. Goodes 3, D. De Jong, C. Eagleton, B. Jones 2, M. Barker, D. Blake, M. Castricum, M. Moylan, S. Stanton, B. Tivendale, 1.
Best – ROC: Craig Eagleton, Ryan Cotter, Darren De Jong, Brad Jones, Jarrod Goodes.
The Pakenham Hotel Award went to Craig Eagleton and the Shanika’s Restaurant Berwick Award went to Michael Barker.

RESERVES

ROC continued its winning streak with a hardfought sixpoint win over Beaconsfield.
With still an outside chance of making the finals, the Kangaroos played hard uncompromising football and led narrowly at every change.
The defence for ROC was strong and made the Beaconsfield forwards earn every kick.
Scores: ROC 7.10.52 d Beaconsfield 6.10.46.
Goals – ROC: M. James 2, A. Jones, S. Marchetti, D. Johnson, S. McIntyre, S. Webster.
Best ROC Scott Rankin, Steve McIntyre, Sean Sullivan, Sean Marchetti, Matthew James.

UNDER 18

Again undermanned and outnumbered, the young Kangaroos lived up to their reputation of fighting against the odds as they were overrun by a strong Beaconsfield side.
Coach Brad Snooks has asked the players to continue with their training and positive attitude as the season draws to a close.
Scores: Beaconsfield 28.19.187 d ROC 1.3.9.
Goal – ROC: Nathan Phillips.
Best – ROC: Daniel McDonald, Warren Monks, Gavin Staindl, Jesse Pattison, Daniel Churchill.
