Senior Stars play brightly

GARFIELD defeated Maffra in senior grades at the weekend but found success harder at junior level.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:A GRADE

Garfield welcomed back Bridget Soumilas and Heath Mills to the senior lineup and their presence had an immediate impact. Soumilas had lost none of her form and shot accurately and consistently to help set up the win. Bess Henry and Susie Papley dominated the centre court play with their usual speed and drive.

Awards: O&H Hotel Bess Henry and Susie Papley, Garfield Hotel Bridget Soumilas.

Maffra dominated the first quarter and the result was reflected in the scores at the first change. Positional changes for the second quarter, combined with Garfield’s fitness, enabled the team to come out in front. Strong defence by Di Collis and Casey Dawes, against a much taller goaler, created many turnovers.
Scores: Garfield 56 d Maffra 43.
Awards: Garfield Hotel Jessica Marsh, Shapes Gym Jackie Collis.

Garfield started with a positive attitude dominated Maffra for the entire game. Sammy Barr and Nat Van Der Pas played excellent defensive games. Clean and precise leading combined with accurate passing through the centre helped to secure the win. Strong shooting and rebounding by Christine Mouser and Becky Hower.
Scores: Garfield 50 d Maffra 24.
Awards: Garfield Hotel Christine Mouser, Blockbuster Danae Jolly, Shapes Gym Casey Robson.
