PAKENHAM Hills Primary School captain Tayla Crawford topped a public speaking competition at Cardinia Cultural Centre last week.
Students were given a topic and asked to write their own speech for the competition, held each year through the Rotary Club of Pakenham’s youth services committee.
Judges were looking for appearance and posture, achievement and purpose and flow and structure of the presentation.
They also wanted speakers to eye maintain contact with their audience.
Tayla presented an enthralling talk on peer pressure and won first prize.
Pakenham Hills assistant principal John Legione said the school was exceptionally proud of the performances of Tayla and fellow student Ashley Turner.
Tayla won $500 for her school and $100 for herself.
