TV’s Hotdogs intrudes on name

By Glen Atwell
BEWARE of television imitations! Longwarry football coach Scott McQualter says he is the original ‘Hotdog’, and has a story to prove it.
The 29yearold mechanic said he was surprised to see a recent Big Brother housemate enter the show named ‘Hotdogs’… and doesn’t particularly like having a new dog on the block.
Scott reckons the housemate, identified as 27yearold Simon Deering after his eviction from the popular television show, is getting a free popularity ride thanks to a nickname he has sported since primary school.
“I’ve had it for ages now, it’s either Hotdog, Hottie or the Dog,” he explained.
Scott said his love of hotdogs in his younger years wasn’t the only reason he was landed with the nickname.
“I used to eat a lot of them, and people knew it.
“But it was when I wore a tshirt that had hotdog written across it, that’s when it really started,” the original ‘Dog’ said.
Scott said he loved to throw a few other stories in as well to keep the origin of his nickname a mystery.
“I like to keep them guessing.”
Scott admits to sharing some similarities with the television Hotdogs.
“He plays footy, I play footy… he likes to drink, I like to drink.”
Given the popularity of the show, Scott expects the nickname to grow in popularity.
“I’m sure there are a few out there, but I’ve never known anyone else nicknamed Hotdog,” he said. “I’m sure now they’ll start popping up everywhere.”
