WEST Gippsland Latrobe Football League interleague selectors have announced a 49man training squad from which 26 players will be chosen to represent the league in Pool A of the VCFL country championships at Albury on 1314 May.
The WGLFL will play the Ovens and Murray, Ballarat and Goulburn Valley leagues in the muchdiscussed roundrobin format that has been preferred over the past two years.
Included in the squad are six players from Garfield, four from Warragul and three from Drouin.
The Stars will be represented by both the Soumilas brothers, Ben, who was an emergency callup in last year’s successful campaign, joining his champion sibling Andy, who made a surprise comeback from a foot injury on Saturday.
Other districtbased players to make the squad include Ben Marsh, Shaun Pickering, Brent MacFarlane and Jake Hower.
Training sessions will be held at Moe on Wednesday, 3 May, Monday, 8 May and Wednesday, 10 May, starting at 6.30pm.
