Bomber bats take off

EMERALD’S A-grade bats hit out to notch a competitive 235 runs against Pakenham Upper-Toomuc on Saturday.
David Alenson teamed up with brother Mark at the top of the order and the two got off to a good start of 0/82 before Mark was out for 52.
Quenten Lucas came in and hit a solid 39 before being caught.
The score was on 2/165 before David Alenson was finally out. His 56-over innings came to an end after he scored a patient 59.
Brodie Lucas, 40, and Wes Wright, 25, hit the ball well and brought the score to 3/212.
A mini collapse saw the score fall to 8/235 before Daniel Porter, 28, and Mark Wheatley, 24, saw the Bombers home.

B GRADE

Emerald played away at Cardinia, won the toss and batted.
The Bombers got off to a bad start and fell to 4/9 after 16 with only Jarred Gillespie showing any resistance.
David Black and Tony Flint, both playing their first games for the year, came in and steadied the ship for the Bombers. The runs were hard to find as the pair did well to occupy the crease.
Flint was out in the 45th over for 12 and then the score fell to 8/81 after Black was out in the 56th over for an excellent 47.
Youngsters Jay Kleinsmit and Ash Lucas batted smartly and ran well to bring the score to 124 after 70 overs.
Kleinsmit made 22 not out and Lucas 16.

D GRADE

Emerald played at home on a slow Worrell ground. Batting first ‘Sticks’ Vanleeun and Chris Alenson opened up and did well to see off the new ball.
It wasn’t until the 23rd over that Alenson was out for 16, Vanleeun was out soon after for 28 and then Julian Powell and Michael Borkowski started to look comfortable at the crease.
It wasn’t until the 44th over that Powell was out for 28.
After the loss of another wicket, Robbie Stewart joined Borkowski and the two batted out the last 24 overs in style to bring the score to 4/189.
Borkowski made a great 55 not out, while Stewart was also not out on 39.

E GRADE

Playing away at Merinda Park, the Bombers batted first and got off to a shaky start with the score falling to 4/29.
Eric Glazner joined opener Mark O’Brien at the crease and they steadied the Bombers to take the score to 4/143 before Glazner was run out for 34.
The in-form O’Brien followed soon after for 55 and the Bombers collapsed and helped by Aaron Cameron’s 21, reached 157.
With 11 overs to bowl at the end of the day, Glazner and Ely grabbed wickets to leave Merinda Park at 2/39.

F GRADE

The Bombers played Pakenham, batted first and didn’t get off to the best start after finding themselves at 4/11 after seven overs.
Jim Burke and Neil Gillespie then guided the Bombers to 93 before Gillespie was out for 44 and soon after Burke was out for 39.
From there the Bombers lost quick wickets to be 8/112 and in reply fell just 14 runs short.
Brad Wynd with 1/13, Jim Burke 2/16, Darren Kruger 1/16 all bowled well, but the best bowler was Ben Wright who finished with 3/24 off six overs.

UNDER 16 BLACK

Due to rain last week Emerald Black played a one-dayer against Pakenham.
Bowling it did well to have Pakenham 9/104 off its 22 overs.
Best of the bowlers was Zeb Quigley with 2/8 and Euan Thoms with 2/18.
After batting the Bombers found themselves just four runs short.
Quigley retired on 25, Dan Leversha made 23, with Thoms making 17 and Jayden Thompson 15.

UNDER 14 RED

After making 63 last week, thanks to Fraser Burns’ 36, the Reds lost to Pakenham.
With Pakenham 0/26 the Red’s fought hard to bowl them out for 26.
Blake Leckenby was the best bowler, taking 3/7, while Andrew Weston 1/0, David Gatt 1/6 and Paul White 1/10 and Tom Mather 1/13.

UNDER 14 BLACK

Playing a one-dayer, the Blacks batted first and made 74 against the Beacy Tigers.
Tom Baldock made 18 and Tye Johnstone 11.
In reply Emerald bowled the Tigers out for 55. Baldock 2/11, Johnstone 2/4, and Jedd Ralph 2/6 were the best bowlers.
