Clean sweep for Drouin

DROUIN Hawks Netball Club started the season in style with all its six sides winning against a very determined Moe on Saturday.

A GRADE

Drouin was too strong for Moe that was valiant in defeat.
Its new goaling combination of Sam East and Kylie Proctor was excellent in their first match together.
Amy Fraser and Christie Proctor attacked the ball hard, with their speed causing headaches for the Moe midcourt. Linda McLeish returned to Drouin with an outstanding display of rebounding and defensive work.
Bronwyn Wallace and Nikki Bryce drove the ball from defence to attack with excellent speed and timing.
Overall, it was an impressive firstmatch performance.
Scores: Drouin 70 d Moe 24.
Awards: Linda McLeish – Logan’s Cafe Warragul.

B GRADE

Drouin stamped its authority on the match with a 17 to sevengoal first quarter.
The second quarter was outstanding with Drouin scoring 22 goals with Keira Rees (GS) dominant in the goal circle, being well supported by Felicity Pratt (GA) and in the last quarter, Jodie Proctor (GA) who showed remarkable composure in stepping into senior ranks this year.
In defence, Lia Olsen, Deb Thomas, Kelly Bethune gave their opposition few free opportunities at goal.
The team welcomed Jodie Proctor to the senior ranks in what should be a very educational year for her.
Scores: Drouin 72 d Moe 34.
Awards: Keira Rees – Logan’s Cafe Warragul.
C GRADE

Drouin took some time to settle into its new lineup with many new inclusions to the team.
After a tight first quarter, Drouin outscored Moe 10 goals to six in the second quarter to hold a handy fivegoal lead at halftime.
Drouin’s new goaling combination of Melinda Atkins and Kristy Piner was the surprise package of the match, both girls playing like veterans despite their relative inexperience.
Millie Marriner also tried her hand in the goal ring.
Ashleigh Bryce gave the team lots of drive at wing attack and Rosa Persico was excellent at wing defence with her anticipation and intercepts.
The whole team played very positive, attacking netball and with such a new combination will only improve.
Scores: Drouin 36 d Moe 26.
Awards: Kristy Piner – Drouin Gourmet Cafe.

17ANDUNDER

This was a great firstup effort with all 11 girls contributing to a comfortable win against solid opposition.
With the girls all moving through a variety of positions, it was pleasing to see them quickly settle into playing some freeflowing netball.
The team welcomed their players up from the 15 and under who all played with maturity beyond their years.
Scores: Drouin 46 d Moe 23.
Awards: Caitlin Bills – Chumba Hair Salon, Alesha Bills – Abby’s Cafe.

15 AND UNDER

Drouin was quick, skilful and disciplined right from the first whistle.
The midcourt, Katrina Wardle (C), Karina Proctor (WA) Alex Barwick (C) and Jess Wallace (WA) played with great precision and speed, executing their court systems well.
Drouin’s defenders, Jessie Hedley, Imogen Sceney and Courtney Addison played in front and gained many turnovers.
Courtney Addison showed great versatility by playing both goals and defence. Courtney Jolly positioned herself well in the goal circle, taking some spectacular midair grabs.

With six newcomers, all having exceptional games, this was an excellent match for Drouin.
The attack end was very open and structured with Taylor Beck (WA) and Ellie Derrick and Mel Piner (C) driving well.
Drouin’s goalers Jessie Wyatt, Sam Davis and Abbey Kingi worked the ball well around the ring.
In defence, Alice Goodwin, Sarah Osbourne (GD) and Brittany Dore (WD) played in front and drove the ball into attack sweetly.
