Councillor to talk on aged care

By Jim Mynard
SPRINGFIELD Ward councillor Lorraine Wreford has been asked to present a talk she gave to the Australian Local Government Association (ALGA) conference recently to the City of Casey.
River Gum Ward councillor Janet Halsall asked during the Tuesday, 21 November council meeting that Cr Wreford present her talk to the municipality at an appropriate forum.
Cr Halsall said the ALGA invited Cr Wreford to address its conference in Canberra during the launch of the local government ‘ageing toolbox’.
“The ALGA is meeting her travel expenses, but I would support this even if that were not the case.
“It is important for other councils to hear what the City of Casey is doing in aged care and for our councillors to gain expertise from others.
“This comes under education and personal development.”
Cr Halsall said Cr Wreford was familiar with the subject.
River Gum Ward councillor Wayne Smith said the council should encourage a senior staff member to also attend the conference.
He congratulated Cr Wreford on being invited to address the conference.
He said care of the aged was something Casey did well.
Cr Wreford said she felt privileged to represent Casey at the conference.
“It is fantastic to be invited to speak to 700 people at a conference like this,” she said.
Casey director of community services Jennie Lee said the launch was highly successful.
She said Casey was a leader with innovative developments in caring for the aged.
“Cr Wreford presented the City of Casey program to the conference in a highly professional way.
“Another council has already asked her to present the address,” Ms Lee said.
