Drouin dominates

DROUIN Hawks Netball Club’s Agrade team dominated its round13 game and showed its class against Warragul on Saturday, winning by 31 goals
Drouin had Sam East back after injury and she had a significant influence, combining superbly with Kylie Proctor who also shot well from long range.
The midcourt was outstanding with Warragul having little answer to Drouin’s speed and timing, while Drouin’s circle defenders Ally McArthur and Bronwyn Wallace were strong at the ball and applied great pressure.
Drouin was able to capitalise on the great defensive work by being steady and controlled in attack.
Scores Drouin 67 d Warragul 36.
Award winners: Sam East, Deb Thomas.

B GRADE

Drouin was on top of Warragul in the first half with some great defensive work paying dividends.
Kristy Piner showed her skill by rejecting some shots at goal, however, Warragul was not ready to concede defeat and made changes that worked in the second half.
Drouin was steadied in the second half by Felicity Pratt who came on at goal attack.
Although disappointed at not extending its lead in the second half, Drouin kept its unbeaten record intact.
Scores: Drouin 45 d Warragul 35.

C GRADE

Drouin started well with a 14goaltofive first quarter that set the tone for the match that it dominated from start to finish.
Lisa Jensz and Lyndell Watson fed the goalers beautifully. Lauren Ablett and Millie Westhead were too strong and tall in and around the ring.
With just the seven players, Drouin was grateful for the services of Brittany Jolly and Ashley Murray from the 17andunder team.
Scores: Drouin 45 d Warragul 25.
Awards: Lauren Ablett – Drouin Gourmet Cafe.

17 AND UNDER

This match was a clash of two of the top three teams with plenty at stake.
A highlight for Drouin was the great defensive work from Ally McArthur, Larissa Smethurst and Ebony Dunne who kept the pressure on the Warragul goalers.
The twogoal winning margin was a 19goal turnaround from the first encounter, so the improvement was pleasing for Drouin.
Kelly Hedley played a steady game at goal attack, combining well with Brittany Jolly and Stacie Proctor.
Scores Drouin 33 d Warragul 31.
Awards: Ally McArthur – Chumba Hair Salon; Kelly Hedley – Abby’s Cafe.

15 AND UNDER

This was a highstandard game with both teams vying for a topthree finish.
Jessie Hedley, Courtney Addison and Imogen Sceney were relentless in defence.
Drouin fell away a little in the second quarter with a few wayward passes, but fought back hard in the third quarter.
With added height in the goal circle, Drouin lifted to be just one goal down going into the final quarter but could not secure the lead and continued to be in chase position.
Scores: Drouin 20 lost to Warragul 24.
Award: Jessie Hedley – Leading Edge Video.

13 AND UNDER

In a tight tussle, Drouin had an excellent start, capitalising on some great defensive work to lead at quarter time.
Alice Goodwin rebounded strongly to send Drouin continually back into attack, while Sam Davis controlled the centre court for Drouin.
Drouin’s goalers Jess Wyatt and Abbey Kingi created space well and moved the ball in and around the ring with maturity beyond their years.
Warragul fought back and scores were tied at 10 goals each going into the final quarter.
It was goal for goal, but unfortunately for Drouin, it was down by just one when the final whistle blew.
Scores: Drouin 14 lost to Warragul 15.
Awards: Alice Goodwin – Nick’s Bakehouse.
