A MAN caught driving more than 60 kilometres over the speed limit in Tynong North last week blamed recent refuelling for his need to speed.
The 30yearold Neerim South man told Pakenham police he had just filled his Subaru WRX with premium petrol and was trying to get it through the system.
The excuse did not deter police, however, who issued the man with an on the spot $451 ticket and automatic loss of licence for 12 months.
The man had been caught on the Princes Freeway last Wednesday morning and was clocked doing 162 kilometres per hour in a 100 zone.
On the same day three drivers were detected driving more than 30 kilometres over the speed limit and lost their licences for a month.
